Every semester, Penn State hosts an event bringing entrepreneurship and innovation to campuses across Commonwealth, whether its Global Entrepreneurship Week or Penn State Startup Week. Each event features workshops, networking events, pitch competitions, and keynote panels from startup founders and corporate innovators.

Penn State Startup Week Campaign

As a senior, I have had my fair share of participating in on-campus events. But the most underrated event of all has to be Penn State Startup Week. It is a weeklong celebration of connecting students to successful alumni in the world of entrepreneurship. Considering the nature of the way companies are headed, they are always looking for innovators. For those that are even the slightest bit interested in creating your own business or invention, this is it. I have talked about developing an entrepreneurial mindset and this is definitely related to it because you need to step out of your comfort zone and get involved with all of the amazing resources Penn State has to offer.

The Startup Market

Needless to say, I get that life happens. You are probably cramming for an exam or binge watching on a new Netflix series. So, if I had to narrow down one event, I would highly recommend you attend “The Startup Market”. The Startup Market is practically a resource fair for everything you would possibly need and wouldn’t think you would need (but will need in the future). This ranges from academic resources, entrepreneur resources, startups, and student-led initiatives.

Startup Market: A One-Stop Shop For All Things Entrepreneurial

Joyce's Top Pick:

Don’t know where to start? The best gateway introduction is through student-led initiatives. Depending on what you’re interested in, you can pick and choose; however, an organization worth looking into is Innoblue. Innoblue is an open community that cultivates & encourages the mindset of entrepreneurship. Every week, they host a workshop (i.e. how to make an app, understand cryptocurrency, etc) or do demo days.

These resources are hidden gems in the Penn State community. At the end of the day, definitely make an effort to stop by and talk to some representatives. You will leave learning something new and can add a new resource in your toolbox.
